User Guide

AccelaStudy Infinite consolidates all of our existing language and exam preparation content into a single application. AccelaStudy Infinite helps you rapidly learn anything you want: languages, vocabulary, geography, chemistry, and much more! The most frequently requested feature, the ability to add your own content, is now available.

We currently support 18 languages including English, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Ukrainian. All of these languages are now included in AccelaStudy Infinite.

AccelaStudy Infinite works with the AccelaStudy Cloud, a secure and proven service which allows all of your study content and progress to be stored safely in the cloud. If you have more than one device, your data is seamlessly sync’d across all of your devices. To create a free AccelaStudy Cloud account, Sign Up or Connect with Facebook.

Start Using AccelaStudy Infinite as an Existing AccelaStudy Cloud User

If you previously signed up as an AccelaStudy Cloud user with Facebook or with an e-mail account, sign into AccelaStudy Infinite with the same credentials. Your study sets and progress will automatically be migrated to AccelaStudy Infinite.

App Organization

The application is organized into three tabs, Content, Activity, and Profile. You will see these tabs at the bottom of the screen.

• The Content tab allows you to manage your study sets and your own content items.

• The Activity tab allows you to specify your content package and your study focus for the various activities.

  • Spaced Repetition is the fastest way to learn and memorize content.
  • Study allows you to browse through content at your own pace.
  • Flashcards are the traditional cards with content on the front and back.
  • Handsfree is a convenient activity for passively listening to content while driving, walking, jogging, or relaxing.
  • Quiz allows you to test yourself.
  • Audio Quiz is a great activity for matching audio with the correct item.

• The Profile tab allows you to Sign Up or Sign In, and also keep track of your progress.

AccelaStudy Cloud Sign In or Sign Up

The AccelaStudy Cloud is a free service that enables your study sets and progress to be safely saved in the cloud. Using Connect with Facebook is the fastest way to create a new AccelaStudy Cloud account. You can also create an AccelaStudy Cloud account using your e-mail and password. Please note Facebook logins and e-mail logins are treated as separate users.

If you are not already signed in, you will see a “Sign In or Sign Up” button on the Profile tab.

• To sign up, you can create an account with your e-mail address or connect with Facebook. iOS 9 or later is required for Facebook accounts.

• Once you sign up with a valid e-mail address, you will receive an e-mail with further instructions on how to verify your e-mail address. You must verify your e-mail in order for your data to start syncing with AccelaStudy Cloud.

• You can download the app at no charge on multiple devices. Make sure to sign in to the application on all of your devices with the same AccelaStudy Cloud account. Your data will seamlessly be sync’d across all of your devices.

• If you already have an AccelaStudy Cloud account, you can tap the “Already have an account? Sign In” link to enter your credentials on the Profile tab.

How to Reset your Password

Please tap on the Profile tab. Tap on Sign In or Sign Up. At the bottom of the next screen, you will see the “Already have an account? Sign In” button. Please tap that button to access the Sign In screen.

To reset your password, tap on Forgot Password and enter your e-mail address. You will then receive an e-mail with instructions on how to reset your password.

Sign Out

When you tap Sign Out, AccelaStudy will present you with the following options:

• Clear the data on your device

  • Clearing the data on your device will remove your study sets and your progress from the specific device. Your data will still be safely stored in AccelaStudy Cloud.

• Keep the data on your device

  • Keeping the data on your device will leave your study sets and your progress on the specific device. You may continue using AccelaStudy as usual. Any changes to your data will not sync to AccelaStudy Cloud since you are not signed in.

Content Packages

How to Install a Content Package

Please go to the Content tab, tap on the drop down at the top of the screen, then tap on “Discover New Content”. You can then browse available content packages. For example, tap on Languages on the Discover screen to see the list of available languages. Choose your native language and you will see the available content packages. You can tap on the cloud icon next to a language to install that specific language package.

• Existing Users of GRE® | GMAT® Vocabulary Builder by AccelaStudy or Other AccelaStudy Exam Prep Applications:

  • Please go to the Content tab, tap on the drop down at the top of the screen, then tap on “Discover New Content”.
  • Next, tap on Exam Preparation on the Discover screen to see the list of available packages.
  • Tap on the cloud icon next to the specific exam prep package (e.g. GRE® GMAT® Vocabulary) you’d like to install.
  • If you’re signed in as an AccelaStudy Cloud user, your study sets and progress will automatically be migrated to AccelaStudy Infinite.

• Existing Users of AccelaStudy Language Apps:

  • Please go to the Content tab, tap on the drop down at the top of the screen, then tap on “Discover New Content”.
  • Next, tap on Languages on the Discover screen to see the list of available languages.
  • Choose your native language and tap on the cloud icon next to the specific language (e.g. Spanish or French) you’d like to install.
  • If you’re signed in as an AccelaStudy Cloud user, your study sets and progress will automatically be migrated to AccelaStudy Infinite.

How to Switch Between Content Packages

Once you have installed content packages under Discover, AccelaStudy allows you to switch back and forth between any installed content.

• Tap on the Activity tab.

• Tap on the drop down at the top of the screen to select any installed content package.

How to Uninstall a Content Package

If you no longer wish to see a content package under Installed Content, you can uninstall it.

• Please go to the Content tab.
• Tap on the drop down at the top of the screen, then tap on “Discover New Content”.
• Next, browse to an installed content package and swipe your finger over to delete it.

Subscriptions

You do not have to purchase a subscription to use AccelaStudy Infinite. Simply download the app and start learning immediately with our included content. If you would like to access more content and have the ability to add your own content, then you can choose one of our subscription options.

Purchasing a Subscription

• Please go to the Profile tab and tap on the gear icon on the top right corner to navigate to the About AccelaStudy screen.
• You can then tap on Subscriptions to see the available options.
• All of our subscriptions start with a free 1-week trial.
• Our annual subscription is the best value.
• We also offer semi-annual and monthly subscriptions.

Using Your Subscription on Multiple Devices or Sharing with Your Family

Once you purchase an AccelaStudy subscription, you can activate your subscriber benefits on all of your devices.

• Install the app on any device.
• On the Profile tab, please tap on the gear icon on the top right corner to navigate to the About AccelaStudy screen.
• On the About screen, tap on Subscriptions.
• On the Subscriptions screen, tap “Restore Purchases” and follow the prompts.
• Please note that you must sign in to the iTunes Store on each device with the Apple ID that was used to purchase the original subscription.

Subscriber benefits can also be shared between multiple AccelaStudy Cloud users (e.g. family members) on the same device or multiple devices. You must sign in to the iTunes Store on each device with the Apple ID that was used to purchase the original subscription.

If you have an active subscription, you can use the same steps above to restore purchases if you have to delete and reinstall AccelaStudy.

Audio

AccelaStudy has always come packaged with professionally-recorded, high-quality audio files. These files are large and take up a lot of space on the device. While these audio files are part of what makes AccelaStudy great, not all users need or want them, and they make app updates large and slow to install. The audio files require a one-time download from the AccelaStudy Cloud.

• If you would like to download the audio, please tap on the cloud icon at the bottom of the Study Sets screen under the Content tab. You will need to download audio for each content package separately.

• For those who choose to use AccelaStudy without downloaded audio, AccelaStudy will use one of the great built-in voices that come with iOS. To switch to a different built-in voice, please go to Settings on your device and choose General - Accessibility - Speech - Voices. You can then download and switch your device to any available voice.

Adding Your Own Content

AccelaStudy allows you to create your own content. If you are an AccelaStudy Cloud user, your content is safely stored in the cloud.

To create a new content item, follow these steps:

1. Start at the Content tab.

2. Tap on Items and you will see Items screen with the message “No items yet”.

3. Tap on the + icon on the lower right corner. This displays the New Item screen.

4. Fill out the information for your content item and tap on the checkmark on the top right corner to save your entry.

Study Sets

AccelaStudy includes built-in study sets and also allows you to create as many study sets as you’d like to customize your learning experience. Study sets in AccelaStudy are meaningful collections of content items. You create a study set so you can focus on a particular set of items.

To create a study set, follow these steps:

1. Start at the Content tab.

2. Tap on the + icon on the lower right corner. This displays the New Study Set screen.

3. Enter the name of your study set and tap the Save button.

4. Your new study set is now showing on the Edit Study Set screen with the message No items yet.

5. Tap the + icon on the lower right corner. This shows the full list of content items.

6. Tapping on an item will set a checkmark for that item. Tapping again will remove the checkmark.

7. You may select as many items as you wish. Tap the back arrow to save the selected items to your study set.

8. Tap the close button on the Edit Study Set screen to navigate out to Study Sets.

Study Focus

AccelaStudy allows you to customize the items that are displayed in the various activities such as Study, Flashcards, Spaced Repetition, Handsfree, and Quiz. This can be accomplished by specifying the study set(s) on the Activity tab. Tap on the drop down right above “Choose what to focus on” and select one or more study sets. AccelaStudy activities will use only the items from your selected study sets.

There are only two limitations to this:

• Spaced Repetition mode only works with study sets which have more than 5 items.

• Quiz mode and Audio Quiz mode work only with study sets which have more items than the number of questions in the quiz (10, 20, 30).

In both cases, if the selected study set does not have enough items, AccelaStudy chooses items from the global item list.

Keeping Track of Your Progress

Your progress is updated each time you use the Spaced Repetition activity. AccelaStudy tracks your learning progress based on your feedback using the correct and incorrect buttons in Spaced Repetition. Quiz and Audio Quiz activities do not impact progress at this time.

• Your progress for your specific study sets will be updated as you use Spaced Repetition.

• Your progress is available under the Profile tab. Please tap on a specific content package to see the progress details.

• If you’d like to reset the progress for a specific content package or study set, you can swipe your finger from right to left over the item and tap the “Reset” button.

Activities

Each activity allows you to customize the options. On the Activity tab, choose an activity such as Study or Spaced Repetition. Tap on the gear icon at the lower left corner. You can then customize the available options for that specific activity.

Spaced Repetition

Spaced repetition is a learning technique pioneered by cognitive psychologists that incorporates increasing intervals of time between subsequent review of previously learned material. This spacing effect refers to the fact that humans more easily remember or learn items in a list when they are studied a few times over a long period of time (“spaced presentation”), rather than studied repeatedly in a short period time (“massed presentation”).

This technique was eventually applied to language learning by Sebastian Leitner and evolved into a spaced repetition learning system based on flashcards. Flashcards are sorted into groups according to how well you know each one in the study set in focus.

AccelaStudy defines five groups of flashcards:

• Most Difficult
• Difficult
• Average
• Easy
• Easiest

In Spaced Repetition mode, all items start out in the Most Difficult group. You are presented with an item and you try to recall the information displayed on the card. If you succeed, you send the card to the next easiest group. But if you fail, you send it back to the group at the previous level of difficulty. Each succeeding group has a longer period of time before you are required to revisit the cards.

The advantage of this method is that you can focus on the most difficult flashcards, which remain in the first few groups. The result is, ideally, a reduction in the amount of study time needed. Spaced Repetition is most effective when you use this activity with few study sets at a time. Please note that Spaced Repetition mode only works with study sets which have more than 5 items.

• AccelaStudy tracks your progress based on your feedback using the “correct” and “incorrect” buttons. You can see your learning progress by going to the Profile tab.

• For language content packages, each spaced repetition card displays the word(s) with the primary language on the top and secondary language at the bottom.

• You may tap on the audio icon at the lower right corner to replay the audio.

• You can tap on the gear icon at the lower left corner to customize the following:

  • Tap on “Display” to specify which language to display on the top and bottom.
  • Turn “Play on Slide” on or off. This setting controls whether or not the audio is automatically played when you advance to the next card.

Study

Study cards allow you to learn as you browse through the items. In Study mode, you can advance to the next study card by swiping your finger across the screen.

• For language content packages, each study card displays the word(s) with the primary language on the top and secondary language at the bottom.

• You may tap on the audio icon at the lower right corner to replay the audio.

• You can tap on the gear icon at the lower left corner to customize the following:

  • Tap on “Display” to specify which language to display on the top and bottom.
  • Tap on “Language” to specify the language for audio.
  • Tap on “Word Order” to specify alphabetical order or shuffled. If you have set the word order to “Shuffled”, you can shake your phone while in Study mode to reshuffle the cards.
  • Turn “Play on Slide” on or off. This setting controls whether or not the audio is automatically played when you advance to the next card.

Flashcards

This mode allows you to study the items similar to a traditional flashcard approach. In Flashcards mode, you can advance to the next card by swiping your finger across the screen.

• For language content packages, each flashcard displays the word(s) with the primary language in the front and the secondary language in the back.

• You can tap on the card to switch between the front and back view of the flashcard.

• You may tap on the audio icon at the lower right corner to replay the audio.

• You can tap on the gear icon at the lower left corner to customize the following:

  • Tap on “Display” to specify which language to display on the top and bottom.
  • Tap on “Word Order” to specify alphabetical order or shuffled. If you have set the word order to “Shuffled”, you can shake your phone while in Study mode to reshuffle the cards.
  • Turn “Play on Slide” on or off. This setting controls whether or not the audio is automatically played when you advance to the next card.

Handsfree

Handsfree mode allows you to study items while driving, jogging, or simply relaxing. Please tap the play button on the screen to start the audio for Handsfree mode.

• For language content packages, handsfree will automatically play the audio for the primary language and then the secondary language using a pre-determined audio interval.

• Handsfree will continue to play even if your device is locked.

• To stop the audio, tap the stop button.

• You can tap on the gear icon at the lower left corner to customize the following:

  • Tap on “Display” to specify which language to display on the top and bottom.
  • Tap on “Word Order” to specify alphabetical order or shuffled. If you have set the word order to “Shuffled”, you can shake your phone while in Study mode to reshuffle the cards.

Quiz and Audio Quiz

Quiz mode allows you to test your knowledge by taking a quiz with 10, 20, or 30 questions.

• When you complete answering all of the questions, AccelaStudy will display the quiz results with your score.

• You can also check your score at any time during the quiz by tapping on the “Quiz Complete” button.

• In Audio quiz, the question will be played as audio as opposed to being displayed on the screen. In order to hear the question again, you can tap on the speaker image.

• You can tap on the gear icon at the lower left corner to customize the following:

  • Tap on “Display” to specify what to display as the question and the answers.
  • You can turn “Advance” on or off. If advance is turned off, you will need to swipe your finger across the screen to advance to the next question in Quiz mode.
  • You can turn “Feedback” on or off. If feedback is turned off, AccelaStudy will not provide the correct/incorrect feedback in Quiz mode. You will see the questions you missed in Quiz results.
  • You can specify the number of questions by choosing 10 questions, 20 questions, or 30 questions.

Using AccelaStudy Without a Network Connection

Please make sure you’re signed into the app with your AccelaStudy Cloud account while using the app offline. Your study sets and progress will automatically sync when your device is connected to a network.

Deleting and Reinstalling AccelaStudy

If you’re an AccelaStudy Cloud user, your data is safely stored in the cloud. After you install the app, simply sign in with your AccelaStudy Cloud credentials. Your data will sync to your device.
